Her Story
Three Generations,
One Basket at a Time
“She never called it a craft. To her, it was just Tuesday.”
When I was seven years old, I would sit on my grandmother’s kitchen floor in India, watching her turn simple things into something beautiful.
Dried palm leaves became baskets. Scraps of fabric from old saris became soft, colorful linings. Sweets made in her kitchen filled each basket, and ribbons she had saved from somewhere found a second life tying everything together.
In our family, every celebration seemed to arrive in one of her baskets — a festival, a wedding, a birthday, a homecoming.
But the basket was never really the gift.
It was the feeling inside it.
The feeling of someone taking the time to choose something just for you. Of knowing that every little detail had been thought about, touched, and lovingly put together by hand.
Years later, when I moved away from home, I realized that what I missed most wasn’t simply a place.
I missed that feeling.
The feeling of being handed something made with love and knowing, without a single word, “I thought of you.”
That feeling became the inspiration for Shyamriyu.
Today, we create baskets and gifts inspired by the traditions I grew up with — thoughtfully chosen, beautifully arranged, and made to turn ordinary moments into memories.
Because we believe the best gifts aren’t just things you give.
They’re little reminders that someone cared enough to make you feel remembered.
Three generations. One basket at a time.
